Elleyn with her new family

Elleyn with her new family, Siobhan and her children, and THS President Tim Trow.

Elleyn, the world-famous wheeled Corgi, (her combined videos on YouTube have attracted more than 3,300 viewers) has a new family. Her newly minted guardian, Siobhan, saw Elleyn’s profile and videos on The Toronto Humane Society website and decided she’d like to meet her. Over the weekend Siobhan made three trips to the THS—no small feat when you consider each trip takes approximately 2 hours. The first two visits, Siobhan came on her own to get to know Elleyn; on the third she brought her children along for a final adoption “meet and greet” after successfully completing the interview process.

Elleyn arrived at the THS as the result of a cruelty investigation. After an accident disabled her hind legs, her former guardians left her to flounder on a concrete apartment balcony 24 hours a day. Once she came under THS care she was fitted with a specially designed prosthetic cart and quickly regained both her mobility and spirit. Her YouTube videos show her gleefully tearing around the THS shelter with racecar-driver precision.

Siobhan is no stranger to spirited special-needs pets—she already shares her home with a blind cat and very old dog—so it was no surprise when she, and one of her daughters, quickly mastered the unique care challenges necessary to keep Elleyn healthy.

On her first night in her new surroundings Elleyn fit right in. First she mischievously snatched an unguarded slice of pizza; later, she playfully liberated, and then stashed away, ten low-hanging plastic decorations from the Christmas tree; and at bedtime Elleyn showed her true colours. “I did what (THS vet) Dr. Ward said, and put her on pillows on the floor to sleep,” Siobhan explains. “Well, she had a different opinion. She kept whining and trying to jump up to me, so I lifted her to the bed. She snored for all 11 hours… At this rate she’ll be running the house by Christmas.”
