Rocky

Rocky "I adopted Rocky who at the time, was 8 years of age. Rocky had two previous guardians and the last guardian gave him up because they had a newborn baby and apparently, he was marking his territory around their home (he was not neutered). From Rocky's history profile report, he has progressive Gingivitis as well as cataracts. Prior to Rocky becoming available for adoption, he was neutered and his teeth were cleaned. These pre-existing conditions did not matter to me whatsoever and all I cared about was that he finally get a permanent home and a third chance in life for a loving home. My other dog Max took to Rocky pretty quick and they get along well. Rocky was quite yappy for about the first 8 months, but he has calmed down since. I don't think that Rocky was ever exposed to dog toys before because I noticed that he seemed a bit scared around toys, but with time and plenty of interaction, Rocky now loves playing with his toys, especially the squeaky kind.

During Rocky's first year with me, seven of his teeth had to be removed because of his progressive Gingivitis. Fortunately for Rocky, he is still able to eat dry dog food and biscuits. Subsequent to Rocky's dental surgery, he became accustomed to the taste of dog toothpaste and me brushing his teeth. Rocky LOVES the taste of the toothpaste and I'm sure that if he had his way, he would consume the entire tube of toothpaste. During Rocky's second year with me, I took him to a veterinarian specialist who specializes in eye surgery. After a battery of tests, the specialist discovered that Rocky has "bilateral retina degeneration" (a genetic disorder), and that removing the cataracts would not, in any way, restore his vision. That was devastating news to hear. Currently, Rocky is completely blind in his right eye, but he still has vision in his left eye.

Rocky is such a sweet little soul who loves to prance around, play and give little kisses. On January 1, 2007, Rocky will be 13 years of age and January 4, 2007 will mark the 5th anniversary of when I adopted Rocky.

Thanks to all the Staff and Management at The Toronto Humane Society."
