Moca

Moca

"My husband and I have always been “dog people” and decided to adopt instead of purchasing a dog from a breeder or a pet store. The idea of saving a life and giving a dog a second chance truly appealed to us, and we started looking for our next best friend.

We searched many shelters - we were looking for something small, young, cute, cuddly and definitely not a pit bull (considering the recent pit-bull ban legislation in Ontario). After 4 months of searching we decided to visit the Toronto Humane Society and fell in love with a dog that was described as a “fear aggressive” Rotweiller/Staffordshire Terrier cross - the sign on her cage said “keep away from strangers”. She was everything we were NOT looking for, but from the moment we saw her, there was something special in her eye, and we could not just walk by.

The staff at the Toronto Humane Society were absolutely fantastic, especially K9 services. They allowed us to come in daily for two weeks and work with this “fear aggressive” dog to get her used to us. The dog took to us almost instantly and we knew that this was going to be the new addition to our family. K9 services took the time to answer all our questions and concerns and put our minds at ease before bringing home a banned breed.

We've had Moca for over 3 months now, and it's amazing what a little time and a lot of patience and love will do. Moca has come out of her shell. She has put on a few pounds - she chases her tail, plays with her toys, splashes around in her pool, barks at the neighbour's cat and sleeps in our bed (although she has her own) - she is just enjoying being a dog. She still has some issues to work through (who knows what she has been through in the past), but her issues are very minor compared to the love she gives and we see improvements in her behaviour every day. She has instantly become a part of our family and has definitely found her forever home.

A special thanks to all the staff at the THS for all the wonderful work you do."

Catherine and Dino from Ajax.
