"We already have a lovely, intelligent, well-trained, loyal purebreed GSD, named Angel. We had been discussing adding another one to our family and decided to search the shelters.

Sugar came in as a stray to The Toronto Humane Society and we adopted her in August 2006 after seeing her photo in the lost and found section and knew she was for us. We she first came to us, she was severely malnourished and dehydrated. She also had absolutely no manners and extremely hyper to say the least and had separation anxiety. But she was friendly and completely non-aggressive. We knew that we could work with her.

At first, Sugar tried to steal food right off our plate, but learned her corrections quickly and easily learned by watching our other dog and her new mentor, Angel. Because we are both at home, we were able to give the round-the-clock care that she so desparately needed at the time. But she has been a very quick learner!

In this short period of time, she has learnt to sit, come, walk well on a leash, play and return off leash. She loves the dog park we have in our city of Guelph. She is so good with our grandchildren (but we never leave them unattended)! She can be left alone with Angel when we go out. Her weight is almost up to normal and her old straggly fur has been replaced with a thick, soft, shiny new coat. We often wonder what kind of life she had before. We do know that she seems to have embraced her new one with all the exuberance that a happy, well-loved doggy can! Simply put, we love her and our lives have been enriched by her. Sugar, welcome home."

Shane and Shelley Kehoe.
