Oreo & Silas

Oreo & Silas

"Last summer we came in to the shelter in to adopt 1 cat, we were a young couple starting out and a cat was exactly what we needed. My fiancee, Kevin & I saw Oreo and she was a little older than we wanted but she was so friendly and came right up to us in the cage and you could tell all she wanted was affection and her loud purr was proof that she was perfect for us! Before we left we decided to walk around and see the other cats that needed a home. We saw one cat, Silas, he looked so scared curled in the corner of his cage, but Kevin & I looked at eachother and we wanted to take him home to give him the love he desperately needed.

The staff at the shelter told us that Silas had been abused which is why he was so scared and that he did not react to men's voices very well, but we knew that Oreo & Silas were both what we needed. When we were told that we would be taking 2 cats instead of one home, we were ecstatic but we knew it would be a challenge with Silas being a scared cat and Oreo not being used to having other cats around.

On the way to the car Oreo peed through the cardboard box on to Kevin's hand, I thought that was really funny, Kevin disagreed. But even more funny, was on the way home Silas figured out how to pull a sweater from off the car seat through the hole in the carrying box to make the hole big enough for him to escape the box and run to the back window and start hissing at us, we had to pull over and calm him down, however we had no box to put him in so I held him all the way home. We both thought that this was going to be a huge challenge with them. Needless to say, Oreo and Silas have grown to love eachother and both of them are very affectionate to us and to eachother. They sleep together, they clean eachother and they are now inseparable. We wanted to share our 'Happy Tale' because sometimes people are sceptical of adopting older or unsociable cats/dogs, but they usually end up being as affectionate or even more affectionate as other pets, because all pets deserve to be loved!

Thank you THS!"

Christa, Kevin, Oreo & Silas.
