We adopted Elli (formerly Elleyn) from the THS in Dec 2006. I had spotted her doing my usual browsing of the Toronto Humane Society website. I viewed the links on YouTube, and decided right then I had to see her.
After 3 trips that weekend to adopt Elli, I was happy to see she adapted into our home fairly easily. Our toy fox terrier, Joxxer, thought the cart was "after" Elli, and it took him a full day to stop chasing it (much to Elli's joy).
We have had plenty of experience with special needs pets, and yet it is a new learning experience each time.
Elli is a definite bed hog, and a mooch to boot, but we love her tremendously.
She has become quite territorial, and we are working on that and a few other issues, but the benefits outweigh any adjustments we have made.
I would recommend a special needs or senior pet to anyone, who feels up to getting back more than they will have to give.
Elli's new family.
