Fred

"This is Fred. He came to live with us almost two years ago. I had just lost my 12 year old golden retriever Shadow a few months previous and while I wasn't yet ready for another dog, as a shelter volunteer, I knew there were many cats at the THS looking for a home. Fred came to the front of his cage as soon as I approached and started talking and trying to touch me through the bars. He was really trying to get my attention!

The volunteer doing the adoption interview had no other information about Fred except that his owner had passed away and that he was 17 years old. I knew that his age was going to work against him and I couldn't stand the thought of him spending the rest of his days at the shelter so we finished up the papers and Fred came home to Whitby where he settled in right away.

Our vet noticed a few age related issues, but could not believe how great he looked for his years! He was put on medication for a thyroid condition and after about a month his fur which was dull and lifeless was restored to beautiful condition.

Fred likes to spend his time lying in soft places - like the clean laundry, as you can see and loves to visit with everyone when we have company over.

After nearly two years, Fred is still going strong and has become a much loved member of our family."
