Full House at The Toronto Humane Society
(Toronto – November 21, 2006) The Toronto Humane Society is full of animals in need of stable, loving homes. “Quite literally, we have hundreds of animals waiting to be adopted. The shelter is full to capacity,” says Courtney Barnfield, Communications Officer.
The Society encourages members of the public who have been considering animal adoption to visit the shelter to view the many animals in its care. “Overcrowding at the shelter has prompted us to urge people in the community to think seriously about adding a new member to their families. While animals take work and a permanent commitment, the joy they bring to your life and the lives of your family cannot be measured,” says Barnfield.
The Toronto Humane Society does not charge adoption fees for the animals. Instead, donations are requested and greatly appreciated. This week, the Society’s adoption program is open from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday, 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Friday, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Sunday.
The Society’s standard adoption process will apply and potential adopters must fill out an application and take part in an interview process to ensure animals are going to the best possible homes. Each adoption includes:
- Vaccinations to date
- Six weeks of Pet Plan insurance (must be immediately activated by new guardian)
- Microchip identification implant
- Flea control treatment
- Sample bag of cat/kitten food or discount coupon for Royal Canin Inc. puppy/dog food
- Pet care information booklet
- Many shelter animals have already been spayed or neutered
