The Facts Are In About The Lack Of Protection:

"The agencies entrusted with oversight here have dropped the ball,"

Helping New York City's Carriage Horses

Posted on: Thursday, September 6/07

Carriage Horses of Manhattan The Coalition to Ban Horse-Drawn Carriages will be holding an educational event in New York’s midtown this Saturday, September 8. Its purpose is to raise awareness of the carriage horses in Manhattan and to get people to join in the group’s postcard campaign. The goal is to send as many messages as possible to NYC Mayor Bloomburg asking him to act and ban the horse-drawn carriage industry.

Considering a recent article in the New York Times detailing the city comptrollers audit report criticizing the oversight and care of Manhattans Carriage Horses, now is an excellent time to bring more attention to this issue.

If you’d like to participate in the postcard campaign please email coalitionbanhdc@gmail telling them how many copies of the card you would like and your mailing address.

For more information please refer to:

  • The Coalition to Ban Horse-Drawn Carriages (www.banhdc.org).
  • NY Times: Audit Faults City on Care of Carriage Horses (Sept.6/07)
  • NYC Comptroller: Audit Report on the Licensing and Oversight of the Carriage-Horse Industry (PDF file)

You can also Speak Up! and let us know what you think about the plight of carriage horses.
