Mr. McGuinty: For crying out loud...

Animal Care Review Board orders The Toronto Humane Society to return 11 puppies to an urban puppy mill run out of a 300 sq. ft. bachelor apartment

Posted on: Tuesday, September 11/07

They have to go back?!? The 11 puppies were seized by THS investigators on August 16 after their owner, William McIntyre, ignored a compliance order to have the animals attended to by a vet. The pups were infested with fleas, and several suffered from ear infections. As well, because the pups, plus four adults, shared a 300 sq. ft. room, the investigators determined that the living conditions of the apartment (including feces in one corner and several completely saturated “pee pads”) constituted putting the dogs in distress.

In an unfathomable decision, the ACRB ordered the THS to return all 11 dogs to the cramped apartment. Nevermind that it is a unhealthy environment and nevermind that there is a 3 dog limit bylaw in the City of Toronto.

THS President Tim Trow registered extreme frustration at the decision. “I’ve been trying to get the McGuinty government to do something about the Animal Care Review Board for a long time. But now with this decision coupled with the recent order to return the abused Dalmatian puppies, I wonder if there’s any point.”
