THS Rescues Wolfhound from Star-Struck Dog-Napper

Posted on Friday, September 14 /07

Apparently he wanted to see the stars A Toronto dog owner planning a vacation in P.E.I. thought he had done his homework: He sought out a house/pet sitter from an ad in a reputable newspaper; he interviewed the person and felt secure in the sitter's skills; he asked his neighbours to act as fallback support for the sitter.

What he didn't count on was an unpredictable mental breakdown. The sitter absconded with the dog, set himself up in a downtown hotel room and then proceeded to take the dog to several red carpet events at the Toronto Film Festival. His rationale? The dog, a wolfhound cross named Finnegan, told him he wanted to meet the stars.

Finnegan was reportedly photographed with several luminaries including George Clooney and Brad Pitt.

Hotel staff noted the sitter's bizarre behaviour and called police. The police called in the THS, and Finnegan was immediately seized and brought to the shelter. His owner was tracked down in P.E.I. and returned immediately.

Finnegan was unharmed in the ordeal, and owner and dog were reunited Thursday evening.
