Twenty-nine horses appear to have starved to death on Alberta ranch:

Alberta SPCA seizes 100 more after animals found without basic necessities.

Over 100 horses have been rescued from a ranch north-east of Edmonton, after 29 more were found dead on the same farm. The property, owned by Hinz-Schleuter Arabians, had been previously been ordered by the Alberta SPCA in 2004 to improve the conditions. When SPCA officers finally moved in to confiscate the animals, they discovered a horrific scene: Dead horses strewn throughout the ranch, a barn filled ankle deep in feces, and no food or water available for the horses who could still stand.
