More sadness as another horse is dead...

The horse, an eight-year-old, male Draft Percheron named Clancy, was found dead at the Clinton Park stables on 11th Avenue near 52nd Street in New York City - at approximately 10 p.m. on Thursday, February 7, according to stable personnel. The horse reportedly had not worked since last Saturday, February 2, and was being treated by a licensed veterinarian. The US Department of Health reported the horse's death to the ASPCA on Mon Feb 11th at 1 p.m. When ASPCA agents requested the horse's records from them, administration officials refused to provide information and directed ASPCA agents to file a FOIA request, which can be an extremely long process.

A new NYC Council Member has joined the fight against Horse Drawn Carriages. Council Member Charles Barron has signed on to Intro 658 - the bill to ban horse-drawn carriages.

Mayor Bloomberg, you've cut of these poor horses from city water, where are they getting their water from???

Water troughs for carriage horses have been shut off in Central Park depriving the horses of necessary drink. The carriage horses on Central Park South in NYC are not getting enough water to drink. Since the weather got cold, both water troughs in Central Park have been shut off depriving these horses of water.

DISGUSTING......Horse used as billboard by carriage horse drivers
As seen below during the valentines day protest by the Coalition to Ban Horse Drawn Carriages, the carriage drivers decided to "fight back" by humiliating one of their horses as a billboard, boasting a bristol board and marker sign bearing the words "Hay Pink go buck yourself". A very lowbrow and inhumane approach at attacking rock star Pink's recent billboard in Times Square (seen below) calling for a ban on horse drawn carriages.

Only a few weeks after pop music star Pink joined PETA's campaign to help the suffering and mistreated carriage horses in New York City, another pop music diva has joined the battle.

Chrissie Hynde, lead singer of the hit 80's band "The Pretenders", led a protest Saturday, Jan 31st, through Central Park to call for a ban on horse-drawn carriages in NYC. The Star, who was actually married in a horse-drawn carriage in the 80's, was quoted as saying ""Learning about how horses have died in accidents and seeing their pathetic stalls have caused me to change my tune about the carriage horses".

Much headway was made in January towards the fight to ban horse-drawn carriages, as two new New York City Council members (Rosie Mendez and Miguel Martinez) have also now signed on to the bill to ban the carriages, introduced in 2007 by councilor Tony Avella. Council members whom have now signed on to the bill include: Maria Del Carmen Arroyo; Tony Avella, Melissa Mark-Viverito, Miguel Martinez, Rosie Mendez and Annabel Palma.
