Fearless Blackie and THS Board Member Help Each Other

A sweet-natured 15-year-old has a new lease on life thanks to Toronto Humane Society board member, Pam Inglis.

“I have to admit that when I first brought him home I focused a lot on his special needs as an elderly dog,” said Pam. “After a while,” she added, “I realized that while he does need a little more help than other dogs, he doesn’t need me to feel sorry for him.”

Pam admits she sees Blackie in a whole different light now and refers to him as tough, fearless and independent. “I no longer think of him as a dog with special needs. I think of him as Blackie, a dog that I need,” said Pam.

Blackie was dropped off at the Toronto Humane Society at 11 River Street, supposedly stray. “It’s a little hard to believe he wandered far from home. He’s almost completely blind, deaf and has difficulties with his back legs,” said Pam.

It’s a fact that many pets are simply abandoned when they get older. But every animal deserves a good home and the Toronto Humane Society searches for and finds good owners for all sorts of animals in all sorts of situations.

Blackie spent just two weeks at the THS shelter before Pam took him him home with her to meet her other THS canine adoptee, Molly, and her cats Mordred and Victoria.

“Blackie has come a long way since he joined our family,” Pam said. “I think what really helped him was that he bonded almost immediately with my other dog, Molly. That’s a bit of a miracle actually as Molly has never liked other dogs.”

And because of people like Pam Inglis, miracles are what the Toronto Human Society is all about!
