Wildlife Rehab
Wildlife Area Open
The relocated and renovated wildlife rooms at The Toronto Humane Society are now open. there we coordinate the care of the baby raccoons, squirrels, birds, rock doves, geese and even an iguana.
The wildlife area comprises indoor and outdoor cages to house the many immature, injured and sick wildlife that come through our doors every year. This area is completely separate from the domestic animal areas of the shelter.
Cleanliness is so important in caring for animals and the new wildlife area is no exception. The rehab centre includes newly constructed outdoor environments outfitted with tree branches and foliage to resemble natural habitats. The indoor rooms include individual holding areas and boast a kitchen with a sink, a refrigerator and a microwave for warming food and heating pads.
There is also an area set aside for the wildlife library. The centre is quiet, away from the cats and dogs, and will allow the animals to be treated and to recuperate in a peaceful setting.
Upon rehabilitation, the healthy animals are then released back to the area in which they were found.

Dropping off injured Wildlife
Wildlife may be brought to the shelter at any time, without an appointment, but we encourage you to call our switchboard at 416 392-2273 before leaving home. Immature animals and birds must be afforded an opportunity to be reuinted with their parents before you bring them to the shelter, and we can tell you how to best do this.
