Zoe & Jenny

Zoe recently arrived at our shelter at 11 River Street in need of emergency surgery. She was ready to have her puppy but wasn’t able to give birth naturally. Our vets performed an emergency C-section and delivered baby Jenny.

Zoe and her daughter are happy, healthy and doing well. Without government funding, the THS is only able to be here to help animals like Zoe because of the support of our generous donors – thank you! To make a donation or join our Save the Animals Team as our newest monthly donor, click here.

National Volunteer Week – Thank You Team!

From bottle-feeding kittens and walking pups to socializing special species and assisting staff with administrative duties, our volunteers are one of the most important aspects our organization.

At 350 and counting, these valuable members of the THS team have a genuine commitment to the welfare of animals in our care, and leave an enormously positive impact on their lives.

And while we like to extend our appreciation to these compassionate animal lovers each and every day, with National Volunteer Week just around the corner (April 10-16), we’d like to draw special attention to these individuals and celebrate their kindness and generosity.

Particularly in light of the progress we’ve made at the THS in just the last 10 months, we’d like to extend a big: Thank You! We couldn’t have done it without you!

Venus Finds Her Forever Home

We are happy to report that after being at the shelter since July 20th 2009 - Venus has finally found her forever home in Niagara Falls. We are thrilled to see Venus home with a loving new family.

We always knew we would find the right home for this wonderful girl, it just took longer than we expected. So from everyone here at the shelter - Hooray for Venus!

Daphne & Her Seven Lucky Puppies – Update!

Daphne was found in a recycling scrap yard chewing on food tins, scavenging for something, anything, to eat. She was pregnant and almost ready to give birth.

In her fragile state, she needed help and was picked up by animal control. She soon had eight puppies, but sadly one didn’t make it.

On February 15, Daphne and her puppies were brought to The Toronto Humane Society to get the care and medical attention they need.

We have provided Daphne and her puppies with the best daily care, medical treatment and of course lots of TLC during their stay here at the shelter.

We are thrilled to see Daphne’s puppies grow up healthy and happy. They are now available for adoption and ready to go to their forever homes.

About the Spay/Neuter Service:

The Toronto Humane Society will renovate an area of the current building to establish a high volume, low cost Spay and Neuter Service for low and medium income communities in Toronto. The clinic will be operated under the Humane Alliance model, sterilizing up to 25 animals per day, six days per week. The clinic will operate on a not-for-profit basis and will become self-funding within six to nine months post implementation. The clinic will also be used to expand our Trap Neuter Return program which offers free feral spay services to colony caretakers performing TNR. There is a critical need for this project as there are an estimated 100,000 feral/homeless cats in the GTA.

The community will benefit directly from this project as more and more animals are sterilized through a concerted and dedicated project. This will ensure that the THS is able to reduce the number of stray and homeless animals that roam the streets of our city. The clinic will also play a significant role in placing humane education foremost in our community. To maximize the benefits of this clinic, it will also be utilized during off hours (Sundays and evenings) to sterilize feral cats through our volunteer-driven TNR program. This program is a community-wide effort that includes many local rescue groups working together to improve the welfare of Toronto's homeless cats.
