THS commends PJ's Pets on eliminating puppy sales |
| |
PJ's Pets and Pets Unlimited announced recently that they will no longer sell puppies in any of their stores and instead focus on assisting pet adoption services in SPCAs, shelters and rescue groups across the country, a move the Toronto Humane Society (THS) fully supports.
"We are absolutely delighted that PJ's Pets and Pets Unlimited have decided to stop selling puppies in their stores," says Christopher Barry, Interim CEO at THS. "This initiative will deter the breeding of puppies for sale in pet stores and give hundreds of homeless pets and shelter animals a better opportunity to find a home. We encourage more stores to follow their example."
The THS hopes to partner with a local PJ's Pet store so that the shelter can profile its adoptable animals, educate the public on the issue of homeless and abandoned pets and increase adoption activity.

Kitten foster parents needed |
| |
We are currently in need of foster families for our shelter kittens. Some of these adorable little guys and girls are only two days old, ranging to up to four weeks, and need foster parents who can feed them every two to four hours depending on their size. It would be a three to four week commitment (ideally six weeks or until they are big enough for adoption). The THS will provide all of the supplies needed to do the work. During the course of this foster period, the kitten(s) would come into the shelter at least once for a check up with the vets and for vaccinations. Training on caring and feeding kittens is provided by shelter staff.
If you are interested in becoming a kitten foster parent, please contact Shannon Caulfield at

Visit us at Victoria Park! |
| |
Have you visited our Victoria Park branch yet? If not, come by any time between noon and 8 p.m. we are open for the entire month of August for cat adoptions.
You'll find sweet kitties like Fifi (pictured) roaming around just waiting for his forever owner to meet him and fall in love. Fifi was brought into the shelter when her owner had a few major changes in lifestyle and Fifi was having a hard time adjusting. Fifi can be very nervous when placed in new situations or meeting new people and may become fearful. She does warm up quickly if approached with a gentle and experienced hand. Fifi has proven to be a very playful and affectionate girl since being at the shelter. Once comfortable with you, Fifi will cuddle right up to you and even have a nap in your lap. She would prefer to be the only cat in her new home but enjoys spending time with people. Because Fifi can sometimes be startled, she would be best in a quiet, stable home with no young children. Please come in and meet Fifi! |

Charlotte loves human companions! |
| |
Meet Charlotte the sweetheart. She is a 4-year-old Shepherd mix who came to the THS from the Quinte Humane Society where she was surrendered. She is a bundle of energy and loves the company of her human companions. However, Charlotte's life has been uprooted in recent years, and as a result, she can be a little overprotective of any space that she has claimed as her own. For this reason, Charlotte cannot go to a home with children and would do best in a house rather than an apartment. We think that Charlotte would succeed most with an experienced owner who has dealt with fearfulness and anxiety in dogs before, as she can react unpredictably in new situations, and will need someone by her side to help guide her in times of uncertainty. If you love Charlotte's adorable mug as much as we do, come down and see her in person! She'll be waiting! |
