| New TNR Web Site Section Launches |
 |
The Toronto Humane Society is proud to announce the The new THS "TNR" (Trap Neuter Release) section of our web site. The section can be found in the navigation under "Get Involved", or you can click here to visit the section now.
A little bit about TNR:
The Toronto Humane Society (THS) is committed to helping to solve the plight of homeless cats in Toronto. Two members of the THS board are members of the Toronto Feral Cat TNR Coalition. This coalition is made up of a group of 8 animal rescue organizations, the City of Toronto and The Toronto Humane Society working collaboratively to develop a strategic Trap Neuter Return (TNR) program in Toronto.
Trap Neuter Return (commonly known as TNR) involves trapping all or most of the cats in a colony, having them neutered and vaccinated and then returning them to their territory. The returned cats, who have been eartipped to identify them as sterilized free-roaming cats, are then provided regular food, shelter and monitoring by a designated caretaker. Whenever possible, kittens and socialized adults are removed and placed for adoption. Trap/Neuter/ Return is recognized as the most humane and effective approach to managing the feral cat overpopulation.
We are very excited about this program which is of critical importance in controlling the feral cat population in the GTA. Please take some time to visit the section, and find out how you can personally get involved and help out!!

| Askim - Update |
 |
After reviewing the results of Askim’s test results, we are happy to report that he doesn’t have a tumor or any other condition that needs further treatment. He continues to sneeze but that will be part of his unique character that his adoptive family will need to embrace. Askim is available for adoption now.

| Happy Socks = Happy Cats! |
 |
Thank you to all of the members of the Roots & Shoots club and Downtown Alternative School. They created a program called ‘Operation Happy Sock’ which makes and delivers catnip toys to homeless cats in animal shelters. Today, they dropped off 100 happy socks for the cats here at THS. Thank you so much for making the cats stay here at the shelter more fun!

| A Happy Tail for Mary Sue |
 |
Just an update to let you know that Mary Sue, adopted by our family last April is doing well. It took a long time for Mary Sue to trust that we were her new family for the long haul. She loves to nap with me in the afternoon and she enjoys our trek to the barn each evening to feed the horses and Bulldozer the pot-bellied pig. She is quite jealous of him and tried to dominate him but although he is blind, I was happy that he stood up to her and put 'her' on the run. He is very affectionate and loving and perhaps someday she will understand that and make friends with him.
She still barks incessantly in the car and we have to wear industrial ear muffs but the barking seems to be getting less each trip.
I have never seen a dog watch TV before. Our old dog liked to watch the puck in a hockey game but Mary Sue loves drama. She will lie down like a sphinx and watch the whole show! We leave the TV on for her when we go out and when we return she is still watching it. Great doggy sitter!
I must say we have become very attached to Mary Sue. Our home is more complete with her. It is so delightful to see her find her old rawhide under a cushion and toss it about, then jump on the couch, lie down belly up and wiggle in joy with her tail wagging at a deed well done!
Take care and keep up the good work. A Merry Christmas to all.
