When Fido or Fluffy goes missing…
It’s every pet owners’ worst nightmare… discovering that your beloved pet has gone missing. If your pet is lost, act quickly and follow these five simple steps:
  1. Check your neighbourhood (including hiding places inside your house!) – your pet may be closer than you think. Take a photo with you to show your neighbours, call your pet’s name, and remember to stop and listen.Post flyers in as many conspicuous areas as possible, including veterinarians’ offices, supermarkets and in the streets near your home. Include a photo of your pet, your pet’s name and your phone number. If you offer a reward, check your pet insurance policy – some will cover it.

  2. Call the Toronto Humane Society (416-392-2273) and Toronto Animal Services (416-338-PAWS). Have your pet’s license / tag details ready when you call.

  3. Check the Lost and Found section of the Toronto Humane Society website for more tips, and to upload your pet’s picture and description. If your pet is brought to the THS, we will transfer him to Toronto Animal Services; so check the Lost and FoundLost Pet sectionon Toronto Animal Services’ website too.

  4. Visit the Toronto Humane Society and your nearest Animal Centre in person to see if your pet is there.
The best approach to protecting your pet is prevention.

2010 Paws In The Park

Thank you so much to everyone who participated in our Paws In The Park walk to support the animals at The Toronto Humane Society!

Together, the participants were able to raise over $27,000! These much-needed funds will be used to provide food, shelter and medical care to the hundreds of animals in our care right now. The generosity of our caring supporters truly makes a big difference to the lives of animals in need.

Below you will find a variety of photos send from participants, as well as our THS Board/Volunteer/Staff group who walked our own pets along with the dogs currently staying at the shelter (many are available for adoption!) If you have photos that you would like to share from your Paws walk Sunday, please send them to fundraising@TorontoHumaneSociety.com – thanks!

From all of us at The Toronto Humane Society, especially the animals, thank you for your support!

Help Teeka Get Ready For A Forever Home
Meet Teeka. She is a 1 year old lab mix. Her owners decided they could no longer keep her. She never quite got the hang of peeing outside only. Turns out that it wasn't her fault after all. Teeka was diagnosed with a medical issue (congenital ectopic ureter), which makes her constantly drip urine. She was surrendered to another Humane Society north of Toronto, because they weren't able to give Teeka the specialized care she needed, we brought her to THS. She needs further diagnostics to uncover the extent of the surgery she will require. With the multiple tests, surgery and medical treatment required, Teeka's cost of care will exceed $4,500. After all is done with her surgery she will be a perfect family pet and will be ready for a forever home. We will ensure Teeka gets the care she needs, but if you could help us to cover the costs of her care, that would be appreciated! Without government funding, we are only able to care for animals in need with your generous donations thank you.

Help Gertrude & Sponsor Her Liver Surgery!
This happy dog has a great spirit, and a love of life. Gertrude came to our care from an animal control facility outside of the city that couldn’t find a home for her. We gladly took her into our care as we knew we could find this cutie a new family in Toronto.

Our veterinarians did their routine heath check on little Gertie and expected her to be ready for adoption right away. They found a red flag on her results – she had an abnormal liver enzyme. This led our vets to biopsy her liver, and discovered she has a tumor. Lucky the tumor is not cancerous, however it is quite sizeable. The tumor, being the size of a grapefruit, will require a complex surgery to remove it. Gertie will have to go to a specialist to have this surgery done. The costs of this specialized care and surgical procedure will cost at least $3,500.

If you can help Gertrude and contribute to her liver tumor surgery, please donate today. Without the support of kind people like you, we would not be able to help dogs like Gertie to get the care and medical attention she needs. Thank you!

Marianna - A11221603
Marianna is an affectionate little girl with big green eyes and a sweet disposition. She is shy at first but warms up quickly and loves being with people. She enjoys petting and brushing, and if your hands are not free she's content just being close and having a cat chat. Marianna loves to be given treats and has a cute way of drinking her water with her paw. Marianna was surrendered to the shelter along with her three kittens because her owners had a change in lifestyle. All of her kittens were adopted long ago and Marianna is waiting for her chance to go to a loving forever home. She would make a wonderful family cat or a single person companion. She would also do well in a home with other cats with a proper introduction.
