Duke & Betty Boo

Duke & Betty Boo

March 12, 2015

After losing a huge member of our furry family to Cancer in late 2011 we definitely wanted to give a chance to another dog who needed a home as well as fill an empty void in our hearts and home. Of course our first thought was “Toronto Humane Society”!! Being a sucker for dogs of any shape, size, age or condition I feared going to the shelter and physically looking as I knew that I would not be able to take just one (or two) home…. so I went online. Low and behold the very first dog that I saw was “Chaplin” – now called Duke!

I fell in love instantly and called my husband to let him know I was going over at lunch hour to meet this amazing boy! His journey in life had been a rough one based on all the medical issues he was enduring. The amazing doctors at the Toronto Humane Society were getting him back onto a healthy future by removing his femur bone on one leg that had been broken and healed incorrectly, heart worm, whip worm and other problems. He had a long road ahead of him and needed a “foster” home where he could recover in love and warmth until he was well enough to be adopted. After many trips back and forth to the Humane Society to treat his aliments and to hydrotherapy appointments to get his hip/leg stronger ……. He was ready to be adopted!

I can’t tell you how happy we were to finally get to adopt him permanently!!!! If you could see him today tearing around the pool everyday…..you would never believe that he had a problem with his leg/hip. I must tell you that he NEVER barked – EVER!!!! We’re not sure if he had been severely disciplined for barking in his young life…..but you will be happy to hear that after 2 years……he now barks! And it sounds BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!

Well…..as I stated earlier…..we love dogs. Now that Duke was happy & healthy and he was cool with the small dog that we already had at home …I saw that a little 10 year old dog was looking for a home! She looked just like our other small dog at home. Off to the Humane Society once again! Make a long story short……we adopted “Betty Boo”. Although she only has 2 teeth and her eye sight and hearing are not the best – she has fit into our family beautifully. Duke and our small dog definitely knew that Betty Boo was the senior and they always let her eat and drink first!

This all happened in 2012! Wow ……. how time flies. They are all very happy and so are we!!!!!
I could go on and on about our adopted family…….but I want to make sure you have room for other stories so I will stop before it turns into pages! We have been soooooooo blessed by the Toronto Humane Society. They are so caring and give the animals a deserved second (or sometimes, third, fourth….etc.) chance at a good life! I don’t know what we would do if we didn’t have our furry family! They bring us such joy, laughter, companionship and love!

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for saving all the animals! If it was not for you we would not have our beautiful family “Duke” “Betty Boo” and “Chloe”. As you can see from the pics……life is tough! Lol
