We had been thinking about becoming foster parents for quite a while, and decided it was time to help a furry soul. We took in Sandwich as a foster without even seeing his picture, and when all 18lbs of him stepped out of the crate at home, we thought we were fostering a bear.

The hesitation and skepticism quickly disappeared as he showed us how loving and grateful he was to be with us, and within a couple of days we knew we were going to adopt him.

It wasn’t easy, but at every step his cuddles showed us how grateful he was for this second chance. After 3 months, a complementary dental surgery, a diet and plenty of exercise later, he was medically cleared, and we adopted him as soon as possible.

He has lost 4 lbs and has a lot of energy, even at 12 years old. He is a wonderful cat that loves pets, purring on laps, and always being in the same room with us. Between his unique meow that sounds like a crow, the sassy conversations we have, and the laps he runs while chasing small balls, he constantly brings joy and smiles to everyone around. He has proven that senior cats still have a lot of energy, life and love to give. And this old cat is even learning some new tricks, like sit, stay and up!

We love him and we thank the Toronto Humane Society for their help in bringing us together.
