Every year, Earth Day is celebrated on April 22nd worldwide. While most environmentalists, scientists, and outdoor enthusiasts celebrate, protect, and appreciate Earth on a daily basis, let’s plan to make 2022 the year to do the same.
This year’s Earth Day theme is “Invest in Our Planet” and is focused on accelerating solutions to combat climate change and encouraging everyone to do their part. The goal of the campaign is to help rebuild an economy that protects humans, animals, and plants while healing our planet.
EarthDay.org shared 52 different ways to participate on Earth Day.
Some activities are so simple that we can do them every day – such as picking up trash while you run (or walk your dog), switching to re-useable bags, meal prepping, going pesticide-free, and buying local.
They also shared bigger actions we can take, such as joining a cleanup around you. The Great Global Cleanup has organized collective cleanings of beaches, rivers, lakes, trails, and parks around the globe – including in Toronto! Click here to find a map of cleanups happening around you and more information on how you can participate.
No matter how you decide to celebrate Earth Day, remember that every day presents a fresh opportunity to learn something new, take steps to become more Earth-friendly, and to invite others to help make a more positive impact on our beloved planet.
Toronto Humane Society is committed to sustainability. With the current environmental crisis and global pandemic combined, there couldn’t be a better time to focus on sustainability. It is imperative that our society works towards stabilizing the commonly disruptive relationship that exists between human culture and the living world. We are committed to minimizing our environmental footprint and inspiring others to do the same as we build a better society for both humans and animals.
