Bryan was a medical surrender to Toronto Humane Society when it was noticed he was limping and wouldn’t put any weight on his left hind leg. Bryan was sedated and imaging show that he had a condition called a Capital Physeal Fracture which is a fracture that occurs at the top of the femur bone 

A surgery called a Femoral Head and Neck Ostectomy (FHO) was performed to remove the broken portion. This procedure relieves the pain associated with the condition. While the muscles around the hip hold everything in place, the scar tissue that forms will eventually create a “false joint” which provides pain-free mobility in most cases. 

It takes 4 to 6 weeks for recovery, so Bryan was placed in a foster home. At first, Bryan was on restricted activity but as he healed, our Certified Rehabilitation Practitioner set up therapy exercises to increase his range of motion. Each week Bryan became stronger and within five weeks, he was back to his old self – running, playing, and jumping on the furniture.  

Bryan has since been adopted.
