Osyka (now Kovey) came into Toronto Humane Society and it was love at first sight. I truly feel like I hit the jackpot with this bird.
Kovey and I have fallen into such a great routine. We start every morning with a dance party, then I prepare her breakfast (chop) while she provides quality control from my shoulder. When I’m home, she is almost always found physically on me. I’ve learned to go about my daily life with a bird on my head.
Kovey is a true water baby – and absolutely loves showers and baths. Her other hobbies include watching the neighbourhood birds out the window, listening to her favourite playlists, and foraging for food. Kovey is incredibly cuddly and loves head scratches. She has finally started to figure out that toys are not scary but fun. She enjoys climbing, chewing, and exploring. She’s learning new sounds and trying out new noises every day. Kovey prefers a human elevator instead of flying but will stretch her wings and take flight when she’s on a mission. She’s an absolute angel at bedtime – and sleeps without making a peep for 12 hours straight every night.
Kovey paid Dr Luckwaldt a visit post-adoption and her health seems to be great. She made many friends on the TTC and posed for photos from her carrier. Kovey loves meeting new people and even enjoyed the company of her budgie friends during our short fostering stint.
Kovey is curious about her feline siblings – but they are a bit too interested in her, so she doesn’t spend any time near them (aside from watching them from the safety of my shoulder).
I currently have every book in the library on parrots out on loan, and am really enjoying learning so much from her.
The biggest thank yous to the intake team, medical team, shelter care team, management team, adoption team and literally everyone who has listened to me obsess over this baby.
I’m incredibly grateful to Toronto Humane Society for uniting me with Kovey – I really feel like I found my soul-bird.
