Geralts Happy Tail

From Texas to Newfoundland – Geralt’s Incredible Journey

| October 15, 2021

We see hundreds of success stories every month at Toronto Humane Society. There is no shortage of TLC wins, “foster failures”, and every happy ending under the sun. With every wonderful story, there is a journey leading up to it. Every animal has a journey. Some are short, others long. Geralt’s journey has been uniquely, and quite literally, long.

This little guy started off his story in Texas. As many of you know, we work closely with partner organizations in Texas, South Carolina, and even in the Caribbean to help alleviate the issue of overcrowded animal shelters.

Geralt, like many puppies in the Houston area, had nowhere to go. Shelters are full and cannot provide pups like Geralt with the support they need. Luckily, through our partnership with Best Friends Animal Society, Geralt and a group of other dogs were going to be transferred to Toronto.

But Geralt needed a home in the meantime. A temporary spot where he would be cared for until it was time for his big trip. A local family stepped up to foster Geralt and took such good care of him. Here is a letter, written by the family’s 13-year-old daughter (who apparently didn’t like the name Geralt!), providing a detailed account of their experience. They even sent Geralt’s favourite hedgehog toy with the letter.

Geralt arrived in Toronto, received exceptional medical care, and was quickly adopted. But not by anyone living in Toronto. His adopter lives in Newfoundland! This lucky boy got to see half the country on his way to his forever home.

How is Geralt doing with his new family? See for yourself.
