Our family just adopted Norman (the VERY shy oriental shorthair cat).
Despite everyone’s expectations, Norman seems to be doing quite well! He didn’t eat for the first 24 hours that we had him, but yesterday, he ate very small amounts of wet food. Last night he finally had a fairly good sized meal and ate all of his wet food! (About half a cans worth). Obviously, he’s got a long way to go but we’re just so happy that he’s eating.
Because he was NOT food motivated at all, yesterday evening we tried petting/brushing him to see if that would bring him out of his shell more than food. He instantly calmed down and started purring, and overnight he has become such a social and cuddly cat.
He is still very wary about people coming into the room, he hides when he hears people walking down the hall. However, he quickly realizes we are not a threat and goes back to his purring & snuggly self.
We’re so astounded by his improvements, he went from being a curled up, hissing ball of stress, to a social, playful, and cuddly cat essentially overnight.
Thank you again for all of your help and kindness during his adoption process!
