My husband and I had been debating back and forth about getting a dog. Neither of us had ever owned a dog before, and my husband was worried that we wouldn’t be able to give a pet the attention it deserved. Any worries about owning a dog disappeared when we met Paige.

We took our kids to Toronto Humane Society for their Paws in the Park event in August 2025. They had activities for the kids, and we were able to tour the shelter. A couple of dogs caught our eye, and we asked if we could have a private visit with them. Only one was still available for adoption – Paige. She walked into the meeting room, and it was love at first sight. We had absolutely no intention of adopting a dog that day, but after meeting Paige, we couldn’t let her go. Even my husband, who had been nervous about becoming a dog owner, said to the volunteer, “We’ll take her right now.”

I cannot put into words how much Paige has changed our lives for the better. She is the sweetest, most loving dog we could ever ask for. She loves our kids so much; every night, when my youngest starts getting ready for bed, she is right there in his room for the entire routine. She won’t leave his room until she sees that he’s tucked into bed and safe.

We are grateful for the time we’ve already had with Paige and look forward to many more years with her. Thank you so much to Toronto Humane Society for bringing Paige (and her siblings) to Toronto from North Carolina. While some people may say that we rescued Paige, the truth is that she rescued us.
