A year ago, Lindsay matched me with Trixie for a foster placement. It was obvious from the moment I met her that she had been through a lot in her life – and yet was one of the sweetest cats I had ever met.
Toronto Humane Society went above and beyond for her medically – sending her for referrals, trying all kinds of different medications, seeing her frequently for rechecks, trialling prescription diets, and performing surgery to help her heal.
Through it all my girl was an absolute dream. Taking puffers and meds without complaint. Chatting away to Uber drivers or her neighbours on the streetcar. Purring so much during her medical exams that it was nearly impossible to listen to her heart and lungs. She bounced back from every treatment, eagerly sought out affection, and despite her senior age – became the most playful of kitties.
I lost one of my cats to cancer earlier this year, and Trixie has helped me heal just as much as I’ve tried to help her.
A couple of months ago, she was finally cleared for adoption – and turns out, she was home all along.
Thank you to every single person at Toronto Humane Society who was a part of Trixie’s journey! The entire medical team who treated her and put up with my millions of questions. Special thank you to Dr. Laura, who did her resection surgery and Dr. Megan, who invested so much in her case. Thank you to every RVT, VA, ACW and volunteer who contributed to her care and showed her so much love. Thank you to Toronto Humane Society leadership for approving all of her treatment and deciding her life was worth all the effort. Thank you to Lindsay and Kyla who put Trixie into my life and supported me throughout her 10-month foster journey.
Here’s to a full year of Trixie girl – and many more to come.
