Shellers The Puppy Needs Your Help

| July 25, 2024

I’m writing to you today to tell you about Shellers, a cute, mixed-breed puppy, who was brought to us with her 5 littermates. All of them were brown and white, with big paws and big heads. But we knew right away that Shellers was different, and that she’d be staying with us longer than her brothers and sisters (who would no doubt be scooped up immediately).

Shellers’ head was a little too big. And as adorable as a big-headed puppy is, our medical team knew it was likely indicative of hydrocephalus. Hydrocephalus can be a birth defect (congenital), or it could be a symptom of something even more nefarious going on, potentially caused by a mass or a tumour. Our hope was that it was the former and would be manageable with medication. But even congenital hydrocephalus could be severe and require surgery or have a poor prognosis altogether.

Then, more symptoms surfaced.

Shellers confirmed our fears when she began having tremors. We found a foster home for her with a dedicated foster parent, knowing she would for sure need ongoing testing and treatment. Her foster parent soon began to note that she would constantly circle and list to the left (also the larger side of her head).

The cost of Shellers’ care has exponentially increased in an unforeseen way. And we still don’t know if she’ll need intensive and costly surgery. We do know that she has deteriorated; she seemed unresponsive to initial medication, her appetite is waning, and she seems to be in discomfort.

She needs your help.

Today, I’m asking for your help to ensure that we can be prepared for whatever course of action Shellers needs to feel better and start having more good days than bad days. With your generous gift, we can try to get Shellers’, and other animals like her, the quality of life they deserve.

Donate today, to help Sheller’s enjoy being a puppy and to help other pets get the care they need so they too can have a happy ending.

Thank you for your kindness and compassion,
