For many of us, pets are family. They’re part of our daily routines, our happiest memories and the quiet moments that make a house feel like home. And when a pet loses the person they love, they can find themselves facing an entirely new chapter.
At Toronto Humane Society, we believe every pet deserves care, comfort and compassion, whatever life brings. This holiday season, you can help wrap pets in care by supporting the veterinary treatment, food, shelter and rehoming services they need to thrive.
This Giving Tuesday, your generosity can go twice as far. Thanks to the Estate of Richard T. Roe, all donations will be matched up to $50,000. Your gift can help provide essential care to pets who need it, when they need it most.
At 12 years old, Zeus had already spent years building a life with the person who loved him. But when his guardian passed away, Zeus came to Toronto Humane Society, facing an unexpected change in his life.
Losing a beloved guardian can mean losing the familiar routines, surroundings and companionship that make a pet feel at home. Zeus needed a safe place to land and people who could help him through this transition.
During his initial examination, our veterinary team identified significant dental disease. Dental concerns are common among senior pets, and addressing them is an important part of supporting their comfort and well-being. Zeus received the dental treatment he needed before moving into a foster home to recover.
It wasn’t long before Zeus found a new home of his own.
After losing the person he knew and loved, Zeus had a chance to begin another chapter with a new family. His story is a reminder that with compassionate care, senior pets can find comfort, connection and love again.
Zeus’s journey is just one example of what care can look like. Some pets need veterinary treatment. Others need a safe place to stay after losing their guardian, while some families need help accessing pet food or essential services to keep their beloved animals at home.
At Toronto Humane Society, our work extends beyond the shelter. Through veterinary services, pet food support, shelter and rehoming, and programs that help families stay together, we work to improve the lives of animals and the people who love them.
Every pet has different needs. Meeting those needs takes a community of people who believe every animal deserves compassionate care through every stage of life.
This Giving Tuesday, your donation can make twice the difference.
