Wrap Them in Care: Helping Little Ones Like Rosebud Get a Healthy Start

| October 13, 2026

The holiday season is a time for warmth, comfort and caring for the ones we love. For pets, that care can look like a full food bowl, a safe place to rest, veterinary treatment or a helping hand when life takes an unexpected turn.

At Toronto Humane Society, we believe every pet deserves the care they need to feel safe, healthy and loved. This holiday season, you can help wrap pets in care by providing the essentials they need, from veterinary services and shelter to food support for families experiencing hardship.

And this Giving Tuesday, your generosity can go twice as far. Thanks to the Estate of Richard T. Roe, all donations will be matched up to $50,000. Your gift can help provide essential care for pets who need it, when they need it most.

Rosebud’s Story: A Little Kitten Who Needed Care

At just seven weeks old, Rosebud arrived at Toronto Humane Society alone. Weighing less than a kilogram, this tiny kitten had a lot of growing to do and needed a safe place where her needs could be met.

When Rosebud arrived, her veterinary intake examination found that she appeared healthy. But Rosebud needed to reach an appropriate weight before she could undergo her spay surgery. Once she was ready, Toronto Humane Society’s veterinary team performed the procedure, providing an important part of her preventative care.

Following surgery, Rosebud received a post-operative examination. Her incision was healing well, and she was recovering as expected. With her recovery progressing well and her adoption preparations complete, she was ready for her next chapter.

Today, Rosebud has been adopted and is beginning life in a loving home.

Her journey is a reminder of what it means to wrap a pet in care. It means having veterinary professionals look after their health, providing a safe place to grow and ensuring they receive the attention they need to prepare for a home of their own.

For Rosebud, these moments of care helped pave the way to a happy new beginning.

Every Pet Deserves to Be Wrapped in Care

Rosebud’s story is one example of what compassionate care can make possible. Other pets may need treatment for an illness or injury, while some families need help accessing pet food or temporary care during a difficult time.

At Toronto Humane Society, our work extends beyond the shelter. Through veterinary services, pet food support, shelter and rehoming, and programs that help families stay together, we work to improve the lives of animals and the people who love them.

Every pet has different needs, and meeting those needs takes a community of people who believe every animal deserves care.

This Giving Tuesday, your donation can make twice the difference.

Thanks to the Estate of Richard T. Roe, all donations will be matched up to $50,000. Your generosity can help provide essential care to pets like Rosebud and support the programs that keep animals healthy, safe, and connected to the people who love them.
