Double Your Impact and Keep More Families Together Like Candace and NinaBear

| November 24, 2023

After losing her health, home, and cherished animal companions all at once—Candace’s journey has been a challenging one. Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, she navigated periods of blindness, a traumatic spine injury, and the loss of feeling in her lower body. Combined with mental health challenges, Candace experienced two years of homelessness and ultimately, she had no choice but to surrender two cherished cats, an experience that continues to haunt her nearly two decades later.

Recently, Candace’s illness required her to be hospitalized for spine treatment, putting her newfound companion, NinaBear, at risk of separation. To Candace, NinaBear is more than just a pet; she’s a soulmate, a loyal friend. This agony led Candace to delay vital medical care until she discovered Toronto Humane Society’s Urgent Care program.

Thanks to supporters like you, Candace was able to receive crucial spine treatment while NinaBear was cared for in a temporary foster home. The result was a joyous reunion, proving that families do not need to be torn apart during crises.

Double Your Impact and Keep More Families Together

As the holidays approach, your support is needed more than ever. The increasing requests for our Urgent Care program highlight the crisis that pet parents are currently facing. Created to keep families together during acute crises such as homelessness, hospitalization, or escaping violence, this program has already kept 79 families and their pets together – like Candace and NinaBear. Sadly, though, there’s many more we couldn’t help.

Today, your donation can have double the impact, courtesy of Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets matching offer. They’re matching every dollar for dollar, up to $25,000. Your gift will provide vital pet care services, ensuring families won’t have to make the heart-wrenching choice of parting with their cherished pets, especially during the holiday season.
