Packing, unfamiliar sounds, and a new environment can be stressful for pets. With a little planning, you can help keep them safe and make the transition to a new home easier
Moving changes your pet’s routine, environment, and sense of security. Keeping meals, walks, playtime, and medication schedules consistent can help reduce stress while you pack. Leaving one familiar room untouched until the last day also gives your pet a quiet place from the activity.
Moving day is busy, with doors opening, people coming and going, and plenty of distractions. Consider having your pet stay with a trusted friend or family member. If that’s not possible, keep them secure in a room away from the activity and make sure everyone helping with the move knows not to let them out.
Once you arrive, introduce your pet to one quiet room first, complete with their food, water, bedding, toys, and other familiar items. Gradually allow them to explore more of the home as they become comfortable and check the new space for hazards before giving them free access.
