Peanut

Peanut is a 3-year-old large-breed girl with a heart as big as her paws. Her journey hasn't been an easy one - after first arriving at the shelter as a stray in July 2024, she's experienced several transitions between homes and foster care. Through it all, she's shown remarkable resilience and has blossomed into a goofy, curious, and affectionate companion once she feels safe.

When Peanut first came to us, she was so frightened that she didn't leave her kennel for almost a week. With patience, gentle encouragement, and a little help from our medical team to ease her anxiety, she slowly began to come out of her shell.

Over time, Peanut has revealed her true personality - a bright, sensitive, and highly intelligent dog who loves playtime, soft toys, and quiet companionship. Once she bonds with someone, she's deeply loyal and loves to cuddle or simply relax by your side. She's also wonderfully wiggly - her whole body, hips included, wiggle with joy when she's happy or excited.

Although she's come a long way, Peanut still carries traces of the fear she had when she first arrived. Because of her past, she can be wary of new people and unfamiliar situations. She's looking for a calm, predictable home where she can have time and space to settle in. A quiet household without frequent visitors will help her feel secure, and a cozy crate or dedicated "safe space" will give her comfort and security when guests do come over.

Peanut will thrive with someone who understands fear-based reactivity and uses positive, reward-based training methods. She's learned that barking or lunging can make scary things go away, so her future person will need patience and consistency to help her learn calmer coping skills. Most importantly, she needs someone who understands the importance of keeping her safe and comfortable as she builds trust and confidence.

Peanut is eager to learn, food-motivated, and incredibly affectionate with the people she knows. She would do best in an adult-only home with no other pets, ideally with one or two devoted people who can offer her a quiet, stable environment where she can truly thrive.
