A real page turner

Hey teachers! Remember when YOU had to read out loud to the class? The panic at hearing your name called out, your shaky voice echoing through the small room for all to hear. You probably would have preferred working on your reading skills with some amazing shelter animals instead. Right? Good thing we still have some spots open for our Reading Buddies program!

The flight at the end of the tunnel

As the temperature continues to drop and we all retreat into a collective daydream of warm, sunny days and patio sessions, many are already planning their getaways to anywhere but here. For pet parents, leaving on a jet plane can be a little nerve wracking for both them and their beloved pet. Here are some things you can do to make air travel less stressful for everyone.

Start off 2019 on the right paw

You’re a week into 2019 and things are looking up. No foggy winter weather’s gonna keep you down. You’ve laid out your resolutions and you’re stickin to them. No ifs, ands or buts! Well, maybe just one: But what about your pet? Glad you asked. Here are some great New Year's resolution to add to both your lists!

Let’s get pampering!

According to numbers from Amazon Canada, Torontonians are way behind other cities as far as pet pampering is concerned. In 2018 we were given 19th place! That is unacceptable. Here’s to hoping we catch up to the rest in 2019 by the pampering the heck out of our Toronto pets!

It’s raining rescues!

Thanks to the help of Guelph Humane Society and the North Bay Humane Society, 37 homeless cats arrived at our doors on Wednesday. This transfer is a wonderful example of what can be done through the partnerships we’ve made.

Help save more animals like Bandicoot

When Bandicoot arrived at our shelter sick and exhausted, we couldn’t figure out what was wrong. He was coughing one minute, gagging the next. We could feel something hard and sharp in his neck, so we brought out the x-ray equipment and were stunned by what we saw.

Pet Photo Contest

Lights! Camera! Action! Dust off your camera, set up the lighting and get ready for your pet to become an instant celebrity! We are looking for 12 photogenic pets (of all kinds!) to be featured in Toronto Humane Society’s 2020 New Beginnings calendar.

Fill Their Stockings with Love

For animals without a family, each morning is the same as the last. We wanted to change that with Stocking Stuffers, a fundraiser where you can share a little of the Holiday Spirit with animals without a home!
