I got my rabbit, Steve (on the left), from Toronto Humane Society 8 years ago (as of last week). She was 1 year and 9 months when I adopted her. Her name was Bizou, but we changed it to Stevie Nicks – or Steve, for short. I am happy to report that she shows no signs of slowing down!
Steve has had an amazing life. She joined me in Halifax for two years before moving to Shediac New Brunswick. After several years there, she moved to Port Hope, Ontario for one year. She then moved back to New Brunswick (this time, Moncton) for another year. It was during that time that we got her a “husbun” – another rabbit that I rescued, raised, and neutered before letting them bond. By this time, Steve had graduated from a cage to a large pen made out of several ex-pens fastened together. That is what she still lives in today. Despite not having a partner for most of her life, she quickly bonded with her friend.
She is a fixture in my life at this point, and my husband and I can’t imagine life without her. No move or change has ever made me question my devotion to her – and she in turn has been extremely resilient and adaptable.
