Juan Jamon is a 3-year-old medium-large mixed breed, weighing just under 60 lbs, with a gentle heart and a quiet charm that really shines once he feels safe. He can be a bit shy in new situations, but give him a little time and you'll see a truly lovely dog emerge - affectionate, easygoing, and full of soft, happy moments.

Like many dogs living in a busy shelter environment, Juan Jamon can sometimes become barky or over-aroused in his kennel. With constant traffic, noise, and dogs passing by - plus over two months waiting for someone to notice him - shelter life can feel overwhelming at times. Once he's out of the kennel and away from the commotion, he settles nicely and shows a much calmer, softer side.

He's both food-motivated and nap-motivated (a winning combination), and he's looking for a family who will enjoy helping him build confidence at his own pace. While his early life wasn't the easiest, Juan Jamon has a light, relaxed energy especially on familiar walks, where his personality really comes through. He loves going for walks and taking his time to sniff around the block.

Juan enjoys the company of other dogs and has lived with them before. That said, he's also had some challenging experiences, so he would benefit from thoughtful, positive introductions to playful, friendly companions. He's also pretty happy just spending time with his humans (especially the ones with treats!).

He also gets excited about play, and it's lovely to see that side of him come out. Since he didn't have many opportunities for play earlier in life, he's still learning the ropes especially with games like fetch but he's eager and figuring it out more each day.

Like many dogs who've spent time in shelter, Juan Jamon will need some patience as he settles into a new home. Giving him time to get comfortable with his people and surroundings before introducing too many new experiences will help him continue building confidence.

Anyone who spends time with Juan Jamon notices his sweet nature right away. There's something very special about the moment he chooses to trust you and take that small, brave step forward.

Juan Jamon is ready for a home that will meet him where he is and celebrate who he's becoming.
