Alvin
Alvin
Alvin is a 10-month-old medium mixed-breed with a gentle, sweet personality who is looking for a patient home where he can settle in at his own pace.
Moving to a new home will be a big adjustment for Alvin, and he is likely to bark quite a bit during his first few days, particularly overnight. This is how he copes with change and uncertainty. A calm, cozy environment, a predictable routine, tasty treats, and quiet enrichment activities can all help him feel safe as he settles. The most important ingredient is patience-once Alvin realizes he is home, his barking decreases significantly.
When he feels comfortable, Alvin is an absolute gem. He enjoys the company of people, is making steady progress building confidence with new people, and loves a good run around the backyard before settling in to relax with his family. He is also great on leash and is happy to head out for walks, rain or shine.
Alvin would likely do well living with other animals following slow, gradual introductions. He has shown some mild resource guarding around food, so giving him a little space to enjoy his meals is all that is needed. He could also do well in a home with children who are able to respect his space and participate in a calm, predictable routine.
Alvin has been waiting for a home for over two months, and we know his perfect family is out there. His barking during times of change can make it easy to overlook what an incredible dog he truly is. More than anything, Alvin needs adopters who understand that he will need a slow, patient introduction to every aspect of his new routine. If you can give him the time and consistency he needs to feel safe, you will be rewarded with an incredibly sweet, easy companion.
We truly believe Alvin is worth the wait. Sometimes the best dogs are simply the ones who need someone willing to give them a chance.
