Toronto Humane Society Opens the Community Animal Health Centre

| April 10, 2026
A new location. More access to care. A healthier future for pets and the people who love them.

Toronto Humane Society is proud to announce the opening of our second location: the Community Animal Health Centre, located at 632 Queen Street East.

More than just a new building, the Community Animal Health Centre represents a new way of delivering animal welfare—one that focuses on prevention, accessibility, and keeping families together by ensuring pets receive the care they need before small health concerns become larger challenges.

Expanding Access to Veterinary Care

Across our community, too many families face barriers to accessing veterinary care. Rising costs, limited appointment availability, and a shortage of veterinary professionals have made routine wellness care increasingly difficult to access.

The Community Animal Health Centre was created to help change that.

Offering wellness-focused veterinary services at approximately 50% below market rates, the clinic provides preventative care that helps pets stay healthy while making veterinary services more affordable for thousands of families. The centre is expected to provide between $1.5 and $2 million annually in below-market-rate veterinary care, significantly expanding access to essential services.

Services include:

  • Wellness examinations
  • Vaccinations
  • Diagnostic testing
  • Parasite prevention
  • Microchipping

By investing in preventative care, we can improve health outcomes for pets, reduce pressure on emergency veterinary services, and help families keep their beloved companions where they belong—at home.

“By offering below-market-rate services focused on wellness, we can help reduce barriers to care and support more consistent, proactive veterinary engagement across the community,” says Phil Nichols, CEO of Toronto Humane Society.

Building a Stronger Community

The Community Animal Health Centre is the first step in Toronto Humane Society’s long-term vision to create a network of community-based veterinary services that make care more accessible.

Located just minutes from our headquarters at 11 River Street, the new clinic expands our capacity to serve more pets and families while complementing the programs and services already offered through Toronto Humane Society.

Every wellness appointment, vaccination, and microchip represents an opportunity to prevent illness, reduce unnecessary surrender, and strengthen the bond between people and their pets.

As demand for affordable veterinary care continues to grow, expanding access isn’t simply about opening another clinic—it’s about building healthier communities where pets and people can thrive together.

Looking Ahead

The Community Animal Health Centre is the first of several planned community animal health centres envisioned as part of Toronto Humane Society’s long-term strategy to expand access to veterinary care over the coming years. Together, these centres will help deliver care where and when it is needed most, ensuring more families can access the support they need before challenges become crises.

The opening of the Community Animal Health Centre reflects a simple but powerful belief: the best way to improve the lives of animals is to support the people who care for them.

As Phil Nichols explains, “The Centre is designed to expand access to essential veterinary care and address growing gaps in services across Toronto.”
