Open Letter from CEO Highlights Importance of Patience and Understanding Amid Postal Strike Disruptions
TORONTO, ON – November 19, 2024 — As the Canada Post strike continues, Toronto Humane Society is urging its supporters and the broader community to show compassion and patience during a time when many charities face unique challenges. With the end-of-year giving season underway—a critical period for nonprofits—the organization is navigating disruptions that may delay traditional communications with donors.
“Year-end giving is a lifeline for many nonprofits, and postal delays jeopardize our ability to connect with donors,” said Phil Nichols, CEO of Toronto Humane Society. “From donation appeals to thank-you notes, these interruptions could hinder not only our fundraising efforts but also the personal connections we strive to maintain with our supporters.”
In response, Toronto Humane Society has issued an open letter to its donors and supporters. The letter, signed by the CEO, acknowledges the challenges posed by the strike and outlines alternative ways for Canadians to stay connected and continue supporting the causes they care about.
The organization also acknowledges the broader context of the situation: “While we understand and respect the important role of collective bargaining in ensuring fairness and equity, we remain hopeful for a resolution that addresses the needs of all parties and minimizes the impact on individuals and organizations across Canada.”
To mitigate the impact of postal delays, Toronto Humane Society is encouraging supporters to explore digital options such as online donations, email correspondence, and electronic tax receipts. The organization has also increased its efforts to connect through social media and direct phone outreach.

“The holiday season is a time for generosity and connection, and while the Canada Post strike presents logistical challenges, it’s also an opportunity to come together as a community,” said Nichols. “This year, we ask for an extra dose of kindness, understanding, and compassion to help us and other charities continue making a difference.”
