Why Do Rabbits “Binky”?

| May 8, 2026

If you’ve ever seen a rabbit suddenly leap into the air, twist their body, and kick their feet out mid-jump, you’ve witnessed a “binky”, and it’s one of the clearest signs of a happy rabbit.

Binkies are joyful, energetic movements that rabbits use to express excitement and well-being. They often happen when a rabbit feels safe, stimulated, and comfortable in their environment.

You might see binkies during playtime, when your rabbit is exploring a new space, or after they’ve had a chance to stretch their legs outside of their enclosure.

Rabbits are intelligent, active animals that need both physical and mental enrichment. Providing space to run, toys to interact with, and opportunities to explore can encourage these natural behaviours.

If your rabbit is binkying, it’s a great sign. It means they’re feeling confident and content.

On the other hand, a lack of movement or playfulness can sometimes indicate stress or health concerns. Ensuring your rabbit has a proper diet, a clean habitat, and regular veterinary care is key to supporting their overall well-being.
