Happy Tails

Merlin was the featured dog for November’s “National Adopt a Senior Pet Month” and as the headline stated, “he’s an oldie, but a goody”! When we read his story in the newspaper and saw his photo, something reached inside us and wouldn’t let go. We couldn’t stop thinking about him!

We drove down to Toronto Humane Society that same day to meet him, but he was being fostered and wasn’t at the shelter. We were able to meet with some wonderful Toronto Humane Society workers who went over all his details with us, scheduled a virtual meet-and-greet with his foster mom, and the subsequent in person meet came a couple of days later.

We knew from the start that we wanted to provide this sweetheart with his “furever” home, and he joined our family on November 26, 2021. He has adapted very well into his new surroundings and is a complete gentleman with his cat brother and sister!

He loves his stuffies, training snacks, and daily walks where he’ll play in the snow like a puppy. He may be 10 years old and arthritic, but someone forgot to tell him that!

He has a few anxiety issues that we’re determined to help him work through it – the biggest being riding in the car. With the assistance of Toronto Humane Society trainers, we’ve been given some wonderful tips on how to manage and help him overcome his fear.

We don’t know his history; we only know we want to provide him with a loving home and the best possible care for now and however long the future may be for him and us together!

Thank you to all the wonderful, caring staff at Toronto Humane Society. He’s put a spell on us and we love our “Magic Man”!
