Mocha - Humane Champion

Mocha

| April 20, 2022

Mocha, an 8-week-old puppy, came to Toronto Humane Society without any history.

During his intake exam, Mocha was found to have several large, superficial wounds around his shoulders and neck, most likely caused by fleas. He was in good condition otherwise. Mocha was given flea medication and treated for tapeworm (found in his stool). As we had no history for him, our staff did additional tests to ensure he was healthy. Mocha was put in a restricted area while we awaited the test results.

When the tests came back, Mocha was positive for coccidiosis, which is a parasite that can cause severe diarrhea and weight loss. Luckily, Mocha was asymptomatic (he had no symptoms) but we started him on antibiotics to help him recover. He was also treated to a few antibacterial baths to reduce the chance of re-infection or of spreading infection.

Once Mocha was medically cleared and had his neuter surgery, he was adopted.
