Toronto Humane Society is excited to take part in Doors Open Toronto 2025, celebrating this year’s playful theme: “The City is Your Playground; Get Ready to Play.” What better way to embrace the spirit of play, community, and compassion than by exploring how it shapes the lives of animals and people every day?

Play at the Heart of What We Do

At Toronto Humane Society, play is more than just fun—it’s a form of care. Whether it’s dogs chasing balls in our enrichment yards, cats solving treat puzzles, or rabbits hopping through tunnel mazes, playful enrichment helps animals build confidence, recover from trauma, and get ready for loving forever homes.

What’s Happening?

During Doors Open weekend, we’re inviting you behind the scenes of our facility at 11 River Street. Here’s what you can expect:

• Guided Tours of our shelter, with groups of up to 20 people. Get an inside look at how we care for animals both in the shelter and through our public programs that support pet families across the city.
• Meet Adoptable Pets and learn their stories as you tour—who knows, you might meet your perfect match!
• Pet Photography Encouraged! While flash photography is not permitted (many animals find it scary), feel free to snap cute pics of our adorable residents, share them on social media, and tag us to help them find homes!

• Date: Saturday, May 24 & Sunday, May 25
• Time: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (last tour entry at 4:30 p.m.)
• Location: 11 River Street, Toronto, ON
• Admission: FREE!
• Accessibility: Fully wheelchair accessible
• Note: Pets are welcome at outdoor classes but not permitted inside the shelter.
