What Monetary and Retail Items Can I Donate to Toronto Humane Society?

| January 12, 2026

When you donate to Toronto Humane Society, you’re helping animals get the medical care, nutrition, enrichment, and comfort they need while they wait for loving homes— and you’re also supporting pets in our community through our Community Day events, which are fully supported by donated items. While financial gifts are always the most flexible way to support our work, we also welcome a variety of new, unopened retail items that directly support the animals in our care and the families we serve.

To make sure every donation is safe and usable, there are a few important guidelines to keep in mind. We do not accept opened bags, boxes, or jars of pet food, and we cannot accept used medical equipment or medication—even if it appears brand new. These policies help protect the health and safety of the animals we care for.

We have an Amazon wishlist that highlights items currently in need.

Below is a helpful guide to the types of monetary and retail items we’re able to accept.

Financial Gifts

Monetary donations allow us to respond quickly to the most urgent needs of animals in our care and community pets accessing our services. Financial gifts support emergency and lifesaving medical treatment, spay and neuter surgeries, vaccinations, parasite prevention, behaviour and training support, food, litter, bedding, enrichment, and community veterinary programs that help keep pets with the families who love them.

You can make a one-time or monthly gift, give in honour or memory of a loved one, or support our community support programs.

Gift Cards We Can Use

Gift cards give our teams the flexibility to purchase exactly what’s needed most. We gratefully accept gift cards from pet supply stores, grocery stores, pharmacies, and general retailers that sell household and pet-care essentials.

These help us quickly restock food, litter, medical supplies, cleaning products, and enrichment items.

We are happy to accept new and unopened items that can go straight into use for animals in our shelter and community programs.
