When Zephus arrived at Toronto Humane Society, it was clear he was in distress. His eyes were inflamed and swollen, with green discharge indicating a painful infection. His vision was extremely limited—if he could see at all—and the discomfort was overwhelming.
Our veterinary team moved quickly. Zephus was diagnosed with severe, irreversible eye disease. To relieve his suffering and prevent further complications, both of his eyes needed to be removed. Thanks to donors like you, we were able to perform the surgery the very next day.
Sadly, Zephus’s journey didn’t end after surgery. Recovery was difficult. He developed a serious upper respiratory infection, became dehydrated, stopped eating, and lost weight. His condition was critical.
But we were ready with round-the-clock care, including IV fluids, medications, appetite stimulants, and constant monitoring, Zephus slowly began to stabilize. Our staff worked tirelessly to ensure he had everything he needed to heal—not just physically, but emotionally too.
Zephus had good days and hard days. His recent blindness made the world feel unfamiliar, and the stress of treatment made him feel overwhelmed at times. But our team understood. With time, treatment, and compassion, Zephus began to recover. And then—he found a loving home.
This kind of urgent, compassionate care is only possible because of people like you. Your donation made every step possible. From emergency surgery to weeks of recovery, you helped Zephus get the care he needed to heal—and thrive.
There are so many animals like Zephus still waiting for their moment of healing.
Together, we can turn suffering into comfort—and help more animals like Zephus transform their lives for the better.
