Sometimes, specialized rescues encounter animals with ongoing medical issues and reach out to us for assistance. This was the case at the end of May this year when we welcomed a special girl named Zita, a 5-year-old Wirehaired Vizsla, with a gentle spirit and a lot of love to give.Â
When Zita arrived at our shelter, she needed urgent care. Her ears were severely inflamed and red, covered in crusted lesions. She was in distress, scratching and licking her skin constantly, resulting in painful sores. It was heartbreaking to see her in such discomfort.Â
Thanks to the generous support of our donors, Zita received the medical attention she desperately needed. Our dedicated medical team performed countless diagnostics, prescribed various medications (both oral and topical), and implemented specialized bathing treatments. Most importantly, Zita received an abundance of love and care from both our team and her foster home. Within just a few weeks, we began to see incredible improvements—her skin condition started to stabilize, and she became noticeably less focused on her discomfort.Â
However, Zita’s journey was not over. She was still battling a severe ear infection known as pseudomonas otitis, which can be tough to treat and manage. Medication resistance meant that we had to take a thoughtful, trial-and-error approach to find what works best for her. Zita was understandably apprehensive about receiving her ear treatments, which added another layer of complexity to her care. But thanks to our dedicated medical and behaviour teams, Zita received regular consultations and adjustments to her treatment plan.Â
We’re delighted to share that Zita has come so far! She is now a much happier, less itchy dog. She has been adopted into a loving home, and with continued care, we are hopeful for her future.Â
Without the kindness and generosity of our donors, none of this would have been possible. Your donations provide the essential medical care, treatment, and support that animals like Zita need to thrive. With a gift today, you can help us continue our lifesaving work and improve the quality of life for countless animals in our care.
Will you join us in making a difference for others like Zita? Every contribution counts and brings us one step closer to giving them the comfortable, loving futures they deserve.
