We adopted Ollie (formerly known as Miles) back in February, just a little over 3 weeks since he had his right hind leg amputated after a horrible car accident, while also fracturing his spine and pelvis. He was on crate rest with us for his first month, and we purchased a large stroller to make sure he got his outside time without pushing himself (and oh boy did he love his Ollie Trolley). Once we got the all clear from the vet that his X-Rays came back with no major issues with his recovery, we slowly began increasing his walk distances each day.
We are so happy to update that just 4 months after adopting him, he has made a full recovery, and then some. He is full of beans in the best way possible, handles stairs like nobodies business (we just learned how to go down stairs last week and many tears of joy were shed) and walks like a professional, to the point that most people we meet in our neighbourhood don’t even realize he’s a tripod until well into petting him!
He loves his trips to the dog park, and he loves the beach (though still not the biggest fan of the water). He’s a bit slower than the other dogs at the parks, but you can bet once he catches up, he can play with the best of them. He loves snuggling up on the couch, curling up in bed with his mama, playing with his sister (pictured above in one of their “moments of peace”), or playing with his toys. Always eager to say hello to any new friend on our walks, be they four legged or two, it’s safe to say that Oliver has brought so much joy, laughter, and love to our lives, and we can only hope that we’ve been able to do the same for him.
