Celebrating Our Community of Care on National Philanthropy Day

| November 15, 2025

On National Philanthropy Day, we celebrate something truly extraordinary: the power of a community that cares. A community that gives hope, heals hearts, and keeps families—and their beloved pets—together.

Pets are more than animals; they are family. But for many, rising costs and unexpected medical challenges can force impossible choices—sometimes between their own well-being and the care of the pets they love most.

That’s where our incredible community of supporters steps in. Because of you, Toronto Humane Society can offer programs like our Pet Food Bank, Training and Behaviour support, Urgent Care, and our veterinary clinic. These programs exist for one reason: to keep pets safe, healthy, and home with the families who love them.

Take Lily, for example. She was a curious, affectionate cat who loved sunbeams, playtime, and watching the world from her favourite window. But when a severe leg injury left her in pain, her guardian faced an impossible choice.

Thanks to our compassionate veterinary team—and the generosity of donors like you—Lily received the life-saving surgery she needed. Our team guided her family every step of the way, providing expertise, reassurance, and unwavering care.

Today, Lily is thriving. She runs, plays, and cuddles just like before, a living testament to what your support makes possible.

“If I could say one thing to the people who made Lily’s care possible, it would be: thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving Lily a second chance at a happy, healthy life.” – Lily’s guardian

Stories like Lily’s are the heartbeat of philanthropy. Every gift—big or small—creates ripples of hope: pets recover, families stay together, and communities grow stronger through kindness.

Thank you for being the hero in their story.
