Where to begin with Pepper, the incredibly spicy 10-year-old Chihuahua who ended up in our care as a stray over the summer? Well, the spicy nature was really her presenting her fear and pain to us. One quick glance at a picture of her abdominal hernia, and you could understand very easily why!
She was assessed, booked for surgery with a specialist, and monitored closely while she waited. During that time, she met her potential adopter, and very slowly warmed up to a few people. After her hernia was repaired, our medical team saw with X-rays that her dental disease was severe and likely causing her pain as well.
As soon as we were able to provide her with a much-needed COHAT V (the most extensive type of dental surgery, removing a significant amount of teeth and roots), we found out that Pepper was basically a new dog with a sparkling personality!
Pepper came to us as a stray, but the reality is her family likely parted ways with her because they couldn’t afford to get her the medical care she visibly needed. This is a situation we’re seeing repeatedly in our community, and it’s one that we need your help to resolve.
Pepper was almost pushed out of the picture, but with the help of donors like you, we were able to give this senior pup a new lease on life so she could start her next chapter with her new family.
